Treat Yourself to a Smile Makeover With Las Vegas Cosmetic Dentistry

The New Year is here, and one goal to work toward in the upcoming year is enhancing your smile with cosmetic dentistry. A smile makeover not only enhances your smile; it can dramatically improve your oral health, self-esteem and sense of well-being.

What Is a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover is a comprehensive process that enhances the appearance of your smile and countenance. A smile makeover can repair fractured, discolored, or replace missing teeth. The goal is to fix any cosmetic dental imperfections you may have. To begin the process, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and mouth, take x-rays and assess the condition of your teeth. He or she will discuss the problems you’d like to address and what your optimal end result will look like. Your dentist will then create a specialized treatment plan that is tailored to fit your individual needs.

How Long Does It Take?

The length of time your smile makeover will take depends on the condition of your teeth and the look you wish to achieve. Las Vegas cosmetic dentistry procedures could include bonding, veneers and crowns. This process can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks. If you have missing teeth you would like to replace, improving your smile with dental implants and orthodontics takes a bit longer.

Las Vegas Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

There are quite a few procedures used with your Las Vegas cosmetic dentist. Some common dental issues that can be fixed with a smile makeover include:

Alignment and spacing: Teeth that are misaligned or have spaces between them can be improved with a variety of cosmetic dentistry solutions, including veneers, bonding or orthodontics.

Broken, fractured, or uneven teeth: The appearance of cracked, fractured or uneven teeth may be reshaped or repaired with veneers, crowns or bonding.

Tooth discoloration: Teeth whitening, composite bonding, veneers, crowns or a combination of several treatments can be used to improve the color of your teeth. Many patients choose to whiten their teeth before getting started on treatment such as bonding, veneers or crowns so their new smile will be bright and beautiful.

Missing teeth: Missing teeth can make eating difficult, impair your smile and affect your dental health. Missing teeth may be replaced with dental implants or bridges. Depending on the condition of your bone, dental implants can take anywhere from 4-9 months to complete.

Example of a Smile Makeover

If you’d like to improve your smile with veneers, the smile makeover process may involve:

First appointment: Examination and consultation for a smile makeover

Second Appointment: Teeth whitening

Third appointment (2-4 weeks later): Impressions are taken, color is matched and your teeth are prepared for veneers. The impressions will be sent to a dental lab and your veneers will be custom-fabricated by professional dental laboratory technicians.

Fourth appointment (about 3 weeks later): Your dentist will do a “try-in” with the veneers, and if all is well; permanently cement them to your teeth.

Believe it or not, you’re done! It’s pretty amazing that a smile makeover can be completed in less than two months.

Calm Your Dental Phobia With Sedation Dentistry

For patients who suffer from dental phobia, anxiety, prior dental trauma, extremely sensitive teeth, a strong gag reflex or sensitivity to local anesthesia, sedation dentistry is a useful tool. We will cover the top three medications prescribed at Desert Breeze Dental to ease your dental phobia for upcoming visits and procedures.

Oral Medication and Sedation Dentistry in Las Vegas

There are a variety of oral medications with a sedative effect that can be used to assuage anxiety and make you feel more comfortable in the dentist’s chair. Some medicines can help you fall asleep during dental procedures and reduce or eliminate your memory of the sights, sounds and smells of the dental office. Sedation dentistry can allow dental procedures to be completed in fewer appointments, and some complex and lengthy dental procedures may take less time when a patient is sedated.

Halcion (Triazolam) is commonly used as a sedative in conjunction with local anesthesia during dental procedures, and may also be used to reduce anxiety during other types of dental appointments. Halcion acts quickly once it is taken, and its sedative effects last for seven to eight hours. It is very effective for extensive dental procedures that take a lot of time and has a short elimination half-life.

Xanax (Alprazolam) is a potent, fast -acting benzodiazepine that is often prescribed for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Its effects last for four hours, and it has a short elimination half-life.

Ambien (Zolpidem) is effective in initiating sleep before and during dental procedures. It has a rapid onset of action, a short elimination half-life and its sedative effects last for eight hours. Patients often don’t remember much about their appointment after the procedure is completed.

Each person reacts differently to medication. Your dentist will discuss sedation options with you and help determine which medicine best fits your needs. He or she will give you a prescription prior to your appointment. To get a good night’s rest you may take the medicine the night before, and will take it again one hour before your dental appointment. Keep in mind that if you opt for sedation dentistry you must have someone else drive you to and from your appointments.

Common Procedures Performed by Your Las Vegas Cosmetic Dentist

Porcelain Veneers – Dental veneers are custom tooth-colored porcelain restorations that are bonded to the front of the teeth. They are natural-looking and enhance your smile by covering imperfections such as fractures, cracks, stains and gaps.

Tooth Bonding – Typically used to improve the appearance of decayed, discolored or fractured teeth, bonding is one of the least invasive and most affordable ways to improve your smile.

Laser Teeth Whitening – One of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures, whitening is an affordable, convenient and non-invasive way to effectively whiten and brighten your smile.

White Composite Fillings – These metal-free tooth-colored fillings are strong and durable, and create natural-looking restorations that blend with your own tooth.

Ceramic Crowns – Strong porcelain crowns are often the most aesthetically pleasing option when it comes to protecting teeth that have been compromised by decay or large fractures.

Dental Implants – If you are missing teeth, implants can fill that individual space in your smile. These wonders of modern dentistry look, feel and function like real teeth.

Protect Your Smile with a Las Vegas Dentist Prescribed Sports Mouth Guard

Teeth and mouth injuries are common in sports players all year round, regardless of what sport you play. Your Las Vegas dentist, Dr. Paul VreNon at Desert Breeze Dental can create a custom-made mouth guard that protects the teeth from trauma and injuries that can occur while participating in a variety of sports activities.

Why Should I Invest in a Dentist Prescribed Custom-made Mouth Guard?

According to the National Institute of Health, the face is often the most exposed part of the body during sporting endeavors. A mouth guard protects the teeth and limits the risk of damage from traumatic impact and unconscious grinding. A mouth guard also protects the gums and other soft tissues in the mouth from cuts and tears, reduces the chance of TMJ trauma and jaw fractures, and may even reduce the chance of concussion from certain types of impacts. A properly fitted mouth guard can help to avoid costly dental procedures and the added discomfort and inconvenience of having to undergo extensive treatment.

Mouth guards that are available for over-the-counter purchase will provide slight protection, but will not provide the same level of protection or customized fit of custom-made mouth guard. Boil-and-bite mouth guards are softened in boiling water and then molded to the mouth, but the internal layer can easily thin out, which can then lead to inadequate protection. Stock mouth guards are ready-to-wear but can easily become loose and oftentimes pop out. Both types of mouth guards are also more bulky and less comfortable than custom-fitted models.

A Customized Fit with Flair

Your Las Vegas dentist and team at Desert Breeze Dental will take custom impressions that fit your teeth and mouth precisely in order to create a durable, comfortable mouth guard to provide optimal protection. You can also express pride for your favorite sports team and/or alma mater by getting a mouth guard to match your favorite team’s colors!

Protecting your mouth and jaw with a custom-fitted sports mouth guard is well worth the expense when compared to other costly protective athletic gear. If you’re playing football, would you forgo wearing a helmet? Of course not. Protecting your whole body, including your mouth, is essential to staying healthy and injury-free.

Take Advantage of the Fall Sports Guard Special at Your Las Vegas Dentist

From November 1 – 30, 2017, all custom-made sports mouth guards are only $350, a savings of $175, at Desert Breeze Dental. Schedule a consultation with your Las Vegas dentist at Desert Breeze Dental by calling 702-869-0032 to get started!

Are you a Candidate for Dental Crown Treatment?

Dental crown treatment is a procedure that covers an ailing tooth with a full coverage porcelain restoration – literally crowning it to improve the tooth’s size, shape, condition and/or appearance. A dental crown treatment is an aesthetic and restorative procedure done to provide stability to the tooth.

Reasons Why People Get Dental Crowns

A dental crown treatment is a common procedure that is done comfortably in our office. You would be a prime candidate if you have:

  • A chipped or fractured tooth, causing pain when chewing. A dental crown can provide stability and help to evenly distribute the stress of chewing, which often eliminates the pain entirely. Sometimes it’s best to leave a temporary crown on for a while to ensure that the tooth doesn’t require a root canal instead.
  • Post-root canal therapy. After a root canal procedure, the tooth that remains is often prone to fracturing. It often needs to be replaced with a new porcelain dental crown in order to prevent it from breaking.
  • A large filling that consumes at least half the width of a tooth. A filling of this size can leave the remaining tooth in a compromised position, which can cause it to fracture. A dental crown can help to strengthen the effected tooth.
  • Tooth decay. Untreated tooth decay can spread causing infection, pain and the loss of a tooth, but a dental crown can minimize all three unwanted consequences.
  • Tooth wear or malocclusion. Tooth injury or nightly teeth grinding can cause a tooth to become shorter or lose its shape over time. Oftentimes the enamel will completely wear away. A dental crown can do more than look like “the real thing”; it can also feel and function like a real tooth too.
  • Tooth discoloration or another cosmetic imperfection. A dental crown can make an unpleasant color or space look natural and worthy of smiling again.

Desert Breeze Dental’s Discount Makes Treatment Even More Affordable

Dental crowns are made out of gold, porcelain and zirconia. The procedure typically requires 2 appointments to a dentist to complete the treatment – the first to prepare the tooth for the crown and the second to secure the permanent crown. Currently and until November 23, 2017, Desert Breeze Dental is offering a $100 discount off the price of a dental crown treatment, making it even more affordable. A consultation, including x-rays or past treatment diagnosis with our Desert Breeze Dental doctors is required. The discount cannot be combined with any other promotion. Call us at 702-869-0032 to schedule your dental crown treatment.
